The Restaurant - Chris's at Beacon Point

Chris's Beacon Point Restaurant Villas - Apollo BayChris's at Beacon Point is named after Chris Talihmanidis.  Chris has a long history in the region.  He came to Lorne with his former wife and their baby son and took over a run down business with no money to buy food. So Chris would go down to the pier each day and fish. In the first months, there was no menu. The customers would be shown a basket of the day's catch and then Chris would cook it. In the first four months, he scraped together $300. After eight months things began to get better and before long not only was there a menu but there were queues in the street to get into Chris's.

The original Chris's was sold in 1985. In the meantime Chris had purchased 20 acres on Beacon Point between Lorne and Apollo Bay and started a very small restaurant (about 1/3 of its space now), which included 6 villas; each unit has two double rooms with a well equipped kitchen, living area and a balcony jutting out over the hill. In 2003, the original restaurant was destroyed by fire and rebuilt. Fresh seafood and Greek influenced dishes are Chris's forte. He has the pick of local lobster in season and prefers to serve it simply. You won't find better. The menu also offers aged beef, roast duck, lamb and pork with imaginative garnishes and perhaps Otway berries to follow. Overnight in one of the on-site villas if you can.

Mietta's Rebuilt after a devastating fire in 03, Chris's spectacular new two storey round glass tower has fantastic views over Apollo Bay. The food features classic European and Greek dishes and combinations of the two. This is elaborate cookiing, something that is reflected in the prices. It is always difficult to find good staff in the country and Chris's suffers from this at times. Chris also owns the casual Sea Grape in Apollo Bay.
